Counseling
Ideally, a school counselor will be involved in the school and cross-cultural transition process. In the absence of one, it can be an administrator or teacher on the transition support team of the new student. The counselor (or administrator or teacher) will check in with the new student regularly to see how they are adapting in the different areas. They can get to know the academic, social, and emotional background of the new student and inform other teachers of ways they can support the student. Students can also process grief and trauma, and other emotions relating to life experiences.
RESOURCES
